[SCIE web news, Feb 18th, 2019] The Spring Festival has passed by in a joyous atmosphere, today is the day for all SCIE staff and students returning to school. At 7:00, all of them attended the flag-raising ceremony on time.
Principal Mr.Neil Mobsby sent the blessing to everyone as “Xin Nian Kuai Le”, wishing we all have a lucky and peaceful new year and could dive into studying with full of enthusiasm.
Application results for Oxford and Cambridge University came out before CNY and a total of 25 students received conditional offer from Oxbridge. Mr Neil Mobsby spoke highly of them and asked them to come up onto stage to accept our congratulations. A big round of applause was also given to all the A2 students. Many of them have already got the offer from their dream university in England, the US, Australia, Canada, HK or other areas with great efforts. We would continue to keep an eye on the application results during the admission season and look forward to good news.
Assistant Pastoral Deputy Principal Mr Gary Ellies then announced the results of House competition for last semester. Tug of war turned out to be quite marvelous with students from each House coming together to fight for their House. Water and Fire were tied for the first place for G level and Water for A level. Wood and Fire won the first and second place in the Physics competition. As for the handball game, Fire and Metal broke out to be the champion and runner-up for both G level and A level. There’s going to be a debate held this Wednesday and all are welcome to attend. Gary suggested that he would inform students about the community service vacancy via email and called on students to sign up and contribute.
In the SISAC international school league, the SCIE basketball team stands out from several competitions, won the championship by sweat. Luke as head of PE department asked the boy basketball team members go up onto the stage and accept congraulations and receive certificates.
In the short story competition wth the theme of “Home” which organized by English Schools Foundation Fobisia, Leo, Fara and Francheska from SCIE performed noticeably well. Francheska will continue to attend the Fobisia regional contest. Luke and Jenny form English department gave praise to them.
The SCIE students performed as well as ever in the SMC English higher mathematics competition. Clifford and Angie gain full score and won the gold award. Ericson as the head of Math Department awarded certificates to them, everyone responded with warm applause.
Academic Deputy Principal Mr. Martin Cole said that Mock exams are kicking off in two weeks, he hopes all students could look up their own examination schedule and prepare well for it.
