Our Mathematics department is quite large with 14 teachers, as the subject is highly popular amongst Chinese students. We teach IGCSE and AS Pure Maths in G1, with students averaging 93% in the IGCSE and then completing the AS Mathematics in G2, with more than 95% of the students completing the A Level in A1 (about 60% achieving A/A*). Around half of the students then choose to go on to study A Level Further Mathematics in their A2 year. We also have a thriving enhancement programme with students preparing towards the Cambridge STEP Mathematics tests. Each year many students choose to apply to Mathematics courses in top universities in the UK and US, including a significant number of successful Oxbridge candidates. Class allocation for the department is made according to the skill set (Pure/Mechanics/Statistics), experience and preferences of the teachers.
